Overall, this first week after surgery was slightly uncomfortable, but I’m already starting to feel gradual improvement.
When I first got home, I didn’t feel much pain immediately.’s The biggest issue during the first two days was drainage. I experienced a lot of leaking, especially on Day 1 and Day 2. Many people recommend using disposable bed sheets or protective pads to avoid staining your bed, but I wasn’t sure where to buy those. Instead, I went to Daiso and bought a yoga mat for around 5,000 won and slept on top of it. It actually worked really well: nothing leaked onto my bed, and it was easy to clean. It ended up being a simple and affordable solution.
By the end of the first day, soreness started to set in. The most difficult part was using my core muscles. Sitting up, lying down, or getting out of bed was painful because any movement that engaged my abdomen caused discomfort.
Day 2 was the most painful day overall. I spent most of the day in bed because moving was very uncomfortable. I continued taking the prescribed medication for the first three days, which helped significantly with the pain and discomfort.
One of the biggest factors that helped reduce the aching and bruised feeling was wearing compression. I was originally recommended to wear compression garments, but I wasn’t sure where to buy the specific medical ones, so I purchased shapewear from Daiso instead. Surprisingly, it has worked very well. I’ve been wearing it almost 24/7, except when showering. It’s not the most comfortable, but I’ve definitely noticed that it helps control swelling and provides support.
I was also warned to be careful when removing bandages, but at one point I pulled them off too quickly, which caused some bruising and minor skin irritation. It wasn’t severe, but it was unpleasant. Since then, I’ve been more careful and have been keeping the area clean and protected. I’ve also been placing clear tape over the sterile tape to help keep everything in place, which has worked well.
In terms of bruising progression, it became more noticeable around Day 3. My stomach area initially became very swollen and turned yellow, which I believe was part of the normal bruising process. Around Day 4 and Day 5, some areas transitioned to darker bruising, including purple tones. Now, by the end of Week 1, most of the bruising has started to fade, although there is still some yellow discoloration and minor bruising remaining.
I’ve also noticed some lumpiness, especially around the belly button area. I’ve been consistently wearing compression to help smooth this out, as I’ve heard this can improve over time as swelling decreases.
Visually, I would say my stomach and arm areas currently look more or less the same as before. I know fat was removed, since I saw it after the procedure, but I think swelling is still masking the results. I’m trying to stay patient and remind myself that it takes time for swelling to fully resolve.
My pain level has improved significantly compared to the first few days. Initially, it was around an 8 or 9 out of 10. Now, it’s closer to a 5. I can move normally and function day-to-day, but the area still feels sensitive, sore, and slightly uncomfortable at times.
I haven’t returned to exercise yet, since I can tell my body is still healing. For now, I’m focusing on rest, wearing compression, and allowing the swelling and bruising to continue improving.
Overall, Week 1 was challenging, especially with the drainage, bruising, and soreness, but each day has been getting better. I’m hoping to see more visible results once the swelling continues to go down in the coming weeks.
