Hey Crowds!
I would like to share my research about implants of rhinoplasty today.
I saw some questions about this and a post
At the beginning, I decided to do a nose surgery as a gift to my poor nose.
While I searched about it, I felt there are too many different information and too hard to find well.
That’s the reason why I write it here to remember and share with you guys.
My nose is very low, flat, and bulbous tip as usual..lol..
I really want to change my nose like her…
Ha.. Can I?
Anyway, there are too many opinions about that so I was confused and changed my mind often…..
sometimes using rib only and sometimes using silicone like that...
Different opinions make me crazy so I tried to gather that most believable facts only.
I know there are some arguments like that is wrong, that is right, brahbrah...
Let’s say that is my opinion from now on haha
However,
I believe that there are many people like me and really hope to help you.
If you are in hurry, there is a summary at the bottom.
So!
Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is doing as the follow picture basically.
There are four kinds of implants / materials that are used much these days on nose bridge.
Silicone, Gore-tex, Rib, Dermis
On nasal tip, ear, septal, or rib cartilage like those things are used much.
The tip cartilages are changed depending on each nose case and not very different to me..
so I would like to talk about the nose bridge materials more.
Let’s get it started!
Most common implant for nose bridge augmentation and I think it used world widely. Easy to see many cases of rhinoplasty comes with ear or septal cartilage for nasal tip augmentation.
** Good things:
- Easy to make whatever shape you want. thin, thick, wide, narrow…
-> It means easy to handle for surgeons and low possible to get failed surgery.
- Cheap!!!
-> Important for limited budget like me..Good and cheap? Why shouldn’t choose haha
- Use world widely now and there are many clinical experiences
- Best for revision when I got some problems from the surgery
-> This sounds like ridiculous reason to me. Where is a person who want to do revisional surgery before starting. Okie.. just in case..
- No changing shape much after surgery.
** Bad things:
- Possibility of infection and moving problem.
-> This is the worst thing that people hate it. There is a research about infection rate is around 5%. But that is too high I think. Many of surgeons said less than 1%. and moving problem is caused by low skilled surgeons normally when they don’t handle well so I don’t care. I will find the best surgeon of nose job hahaha
- Possible to show off if your nose skin is thin.
-> Should check with surgeons while I consult face-to-face.
- Making skin thinner and breaking through
-> Not happen these days and comes from L-shaped silicone. L-shaped silicone is old fashioned and not using these days.
- Nose is not moving
-> It is same as L-shaped silicone problem. Reminding not to use L-shaped silicone
** Conclusion:
- Average score is higher than others and that has been changed and improved quickly so the bad things are very little.
- If you want to do as common and most famous way, you don’t need to read more and choose “silicone”. I can realized that there is a reason why people use it a lot.
2. Gore-tex
Gore-Tex is a porous synthetic material used for rhinoplasty. It is made up of polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE).
** Good things:
- Higher stability compare with silicone. It has micro-pores where flesh may set-in to further fortify its placement
- Good to get a natural looking results
-> If you are looking for subtle changing on your nose bridge, this is very good choice.
- Cutting down surgery time as much as 40 mins on average and reduce the risk of implant rejection
** Bad things:
- That will shrink few years later so the nose will become lower than before
-> This makes me not to choose a lot….
- Not easy to replace it when you need
- I saw many reviews of plastic surgeons they said the revision rate is not visibly less than others even if they decide to do as higher stability.
** Conclusion:
- Good implants for subtle changing on nose bridge
- but should know that is possible to shrink few years later and hard to re-do
3. Rib cartilage
I believe there are many fans about it because of infection worries. Possible to choose your own rib or donated rib.
Some clinics are using one type only. Some clinics are using both depends on doctors’ preferences.
** Good things:
- Low infection problem to compare with others. Normally, using your own rib. That is yours, of course, it is
-> Donated rib is other person’s so higher than own rib but less than silicone or others. It is quite safe so you can do the surgery even if you have infection on your nose too. wow..
- Possible to get it more than adequate amounts. If you are using other cartilages from previous surgery or having contracted problem, this is the answer.
- Good to make higher nose or change more
-> People who like dolly style nose will like this more
** Bad things:
- Possibility of warping and resorption
-> I think this is the biggest problem of using rib cartilage. Rib cartilage is living cartilage so possible to be changed. Hard to expect how it change too. Donated rib cartilage has same problems or more. Many doctors tried to solve it as cutting to give a space or attaching different directions but not sure yet.
- Having a scar on your chest wall around 1-2 inches.
-> After few years later, that will be fade it out but possible to be visible. Pain level is higher than others because of the removing rib. Alternative option is using donated rib. In my opinion, there is not much benefit in infection rate, warping and resorption. Actually, I am scared to use dead people’s mostly…. I think I will choose my own rib than donated rib that I can tolerate the pain to get a beautiful nose hahaha
- Hard to make a nicer shape. This is harder than other material to shaving. So possible to get a result like male nose.
-> Some doctors said that is depends on doctor’s skills but not easier than others are correct to handle for surgeons. I heard that there is possibility to break it out when they make thin shape, then need to remove rib surgery again..? lol..
** Conclusion:
- Good material which is very familiar with your body and expect to get lower infection like that problem.
- Possibility of warping and resorption are possible to get without expecting, aside scarring on the chest
4. Dermis (Synthetic Tissue Substitutes)
Dermis has autologous and artificial type both too. This is autologous type of material so quite safe to use. It is soft material than rib or others. But looks not using widely.
** Good things:
- Yes, it is safe with less side effects than others.
-> It is from your body or human body or similar materials. so infection problems are quite lower than others.
- Good to make natural results and good for people who has thin skin.
** Bad things:
- Easy to get resorption
-> So doctors putting 130~150% of dermis to expect to reduce the height after the surgery.
- Leaving a scarring on your buttocks around 1 inch width and 3 inches height size.
-> This is similar with the rib. Possible to use artificial or donated dermis but If I should choose this, I prefer to use my own dermis. I am just scared haha..
** Conclusion:
- Soft and good match to our body without infection problems.
- Possible to reduce the result and leaving a scarring on buttocks.
Hu….
Less information when I write at last gradually…
Sorry about that. This is harder than I expected. However, I am not sure that why dermis is not using widely and less information about too.
Obviously, using implant way or rib cartilages are more famous these days.
I believe that that is easy and good to get a result.
I guess that this is cosmetic surgery haha.
I think I decide to use silicone and ear cartilage for my future surgery.
I need more natural and more permanent result than dolly style or possibility of changing.
Important thing is discussing with professional surgeons about this.
Your nose might be different and there is a material to fit your nose too.
Most of doctors said that there is pros and cons on each material so you should consult with them to make it sure.
I think this is right even if they will use some material that they are familiar with or easy to use.
I am open to hear your opinion if you want to add or let me know.
Also, will answer when I am free too
I used to be here in the afternoon or midnight EST
Ah I am currently staying in US.
(Pray for me hahaha)
Stay well and strong too
To sum up shortly,
- Silicone is reasonable implant to choose for rhinoplasty these days world widely.
- Possible to choose alternative such as rib if you want autologous material.
- There is no 100% good thing. Consult with professionals about you as well.
