1 week after cheekbone reduction
Hey! This is my update 1 week after my cheekbone reduction at Ruby.
I know that it has been 8 days, but I needed to catch my flight.
I’m sorry if some people were frustrated by the delay.
The recovery was quite hard for me, especially in the beginning. I could not recognize myself in the miroir the first few days and my self esteem was really hurt.
Some things to know:
- You need to follow a soft/liquid diet for 1 month.
- You can’t brush your teeth for at least 3 days
- Can’t wash your hair and face for at least 1 week
- You need to wear a face bandage for at least 1 week 24/7 (ideally)
For your information, I did red light therapy for the swelling almost everyday. The staff at the clinic were really kind!
Day 2:
Day two after the surgery was harder than the first day. Very difficult to eat, sleep and my throat was hurting a lot. A lot of mucus accumulated in my nose, so breathing at night was hard. LOTSSS of swelling . Very difficult to open your mouth even the slightest ( to use a spoon for example).
Day 3:
Even more swelling. Keeping my eyes as open as usual was pretty hard. Swelling was in the whole face. My lips swelled up a LOT since there is stitches in the upper gum area. I felt weak and not hungry for the first 3 days, but I still ate as much as I could.
By the end of day 3, I ate almost everything. For harder food, since you can’t chew. I just cut it really small and swallow it. Don’t eat anything very crispy, only smooth food. You don’t want to swallow hard bits of fried food, trust me 😅.
Day 4-5-6:
Swelling starting to subside a little bit day by day on the upper face. Everything under my nose is still very puffy. I walked a lot and it seems to have helped quite a lot!
Day 7:
This was the stitches removal day. I went to the clinic, they removed the stitches and took pictures. I left shortly after that. Removing the stitches was not painful at all.
I still have a lot of swelling, but it seems to only be on the bottom of the face. My bottom cheeks are really puffy. The nurse said that there is still around 80% of the swelling remaining and it should go down gradually in the next 1-2 months.
For side effects, I would say that there is zero pain whatsoever. However, I knew this would happens, but I already have a little bit of skin sagging around the jaw. I can see a slight double chin that was inexistant before. It was inevitable since my cheeks were really prominent. You just need to know that skin sagging will happen. You might want to to cheek reduction in combination with some type of lift if you want to avoid this especially if you are older. For reference, I am in my early twenties and I have really good skin elasticity and thick skin.
Like said before, there is still 80% of the swelling left, so it’s hard to give my final verdict right now. I will be sure to do so after everything is set in place !
It’s a big procedure and I don’t want to write a post that is too detailed so feel free to ask any questions : )
