Review Part 1: Consultation
Hi everyone! This is my first of three reviews that I will do about my experience with TFD. I went to TFD due to concerns regarding chin implant migration. I sought to find a place to remove my chin implant and get genioplasty and neck liposuction instead. Specifically, I wanted my chin longer and more advanced, and my jaw to be more defined. Attached are my photos from before and after my chin implant in 2017. I started talking to Olivia in March to ask about prices and other questions.
In early May, I did an online consultation with Dr. Lee via Skype. There, I expressed my above concerns. He was a very good listener! Dr. Lee explained in great detail what how he does each surgery, operation time, recovery, etc. Throughout the entire time, he did not sound arrogant and kept asking if I had any questions. When I talked about my possible chin asymmetry, he recommended jaw shaving as well because the asymmetry could be as a result of my jaw. I did not consider doing jaw shaving due to the invasiveness of it but I was open to the idea and told him accordingly. He said that we will need wait until he gets X-rays of me to see if jaw shaving would be necessary anyway. It did not seem like he wanted me to do any surgery I did not want or need! It was a nice 30-minute consultation (even with the poor Skype connection).
In late May, I saw that TFD was having a promotion on All About MEI and asked Olivia if I would qualify. She said I would so long as I give reviews. Olivia didn’t specify whether they have to be good or bad reviews, so I’m just going to give my honest one. After agreeing and deciding on TFD, I booked my flight, scheduled my F2F consultation, and gave a surgery deposit of 1mil.
6 days ago was my F2F consultation at 10am. I was around 10 minutes late because I thought the clinic on the first floor was TFD but they did not seem to mind. The clinic looked minimalist and empty. They gave me paperwork to fill out, sent me to get X-rayed, and then I got my picture taken. Not sure if if the X-ray costed me anything. I think it may have been free because I already gave my surgery deposit. The staff did not speak fluent English but they did their best and seemed friendly. It felt like I was being moved around so quickly though.
Once that was done, Dr. Lee came and we talked about my X-ray. He showed me where my chin implant was protruding in all views (frontal, sagittal, and coronal). It was cool how he knew exactly where it was. Dr. Lee also drew on what he would do for genioplasty and jaw shaving. For the latter, he told me that he would be very careful and light-handed because my nerves sit lower on my face than most people. At the time, I did not mind that idea and agreed to do jaw shaving with the genioplasty and neck liposuction. My friend was with me making jokes and we all laughed together. Dr. Lee was pretty much the same online and F2F—kind and trustworthy! My consultation with him ended up being only around 15 minutes long but that’s because I didn’t have any questions then.
After Dr. Lee left, I talked to one of the staff (most likely higher-up woman with short hair) about the prices I confirmed with Olivia. She also sent me the pre-surgery instructions via Kakao. The instructions included: fasting for 8 hours, no makeup, no accessories, no eye contacts, and no nail polish (sad!). It was a little difficult to communicate with her because of the language barrier but thank god for Papago. I still left that room with some uncertainty though.
Lastly, I got my blood drawn. The woman doing it on me didn’t have gloves on while doing it, which kind of turned me off. Plus, the sinks seemed a little dirty. However, she made it quick and painless. That tends to be hard to do for me because I have such hard-to-find veins! After she finished, I was done with my consultation and was told to be ready for surgery at 9am the following day!
Between consultation day and surgery day, I kept thinking about the jaw shaving while I was sightseeing for the rest of the day. Hearing horror stories on PurseForum about the recovery process and possible nerve damage, and knowing that my nerves are situated lower than normal, I was scared. I kept looking at my face to see if it would even make a significant difference. Getting a smaller, more symmetrical face is nice, but I have a round face with a soft jaw and I was scared that I would lose my already nonexistent jawline. In the end, at around 6pm (a little before the time the clinic closed), I panic-contacted Olivia asking if it was too late to cancel that part of the surgery. She immediately reassured me that I still have time to consider it until the next morning and that Dr. Lee does not mind the change. This made me feel much better but I still lost sleep thinking about it. Not sure if I made the right decision yet, but so far I am recovering quite well. I will post my post-op update soon!
