Korea RF Lifting Guide · Updated July 20, 2026
XERF and Thermage FLX both tighten the skin by heating collagen.
XERF is generally chosen for greater comfort and flexible treatment planning,
while Thermage FLX is chosen for its long clinical track record and established one-session protocol.
Both treatments improve loose skin, fine lines, facial firmness, and jawline definition.
Quick Answer
XERF and Thermage tighten skin in the same basic way,
but they offer a different treatment experience.
XERF: lower pain, flexible treatment planning, and generally lower prices in Korea.
Thermage FLX: longer clinical history, stronger brand recognition, and an established one-session treatment format.
XERF and Thermage results usually develop over 1–3 months and last about 6–12 months.
| Compare | XERF | Thermage FLX |
|---|---|---|
| Main advantage | Less pain and lower cost | Longer clinical history |
| Best for | First RF treatment, pain-sensitive patients, better value | Patients who prefer an established premium treatment |
| Pain | Lower | Higher |
| Results | Firmness, fine lines, jawline | Firmness, fine lines, jawline |
| Duration | About 6–12 months | About 6–12 months |

3. What do they have in common?
4. What is the main difference?
5. Which treatment is less painful?
7. Who should choose each treatment?
XERF is a newer RF skin-tightening treatment that improves loose skin, fine lines, and jawline definition with less pain than Thermage.
XERF heats the skin from inside without cutting or needles. The heat tightens existing collagen first, then helps the skin build new collagen over the following months.
XERF is mainly used for:
loose skin · fine lines · facial firmness · jawline definition · early sagging
XERF is a newer RF tightening device designed around stronger cooling and a more comfortable treatment experience.
Doctor’s Note
Why XERF treatment cannot be planned by shot count alone
In line with Dr. Jimin Kim’s approach of using skin analysis and individual concerns to plan treatment, XERF’s value is not limited to the number of shots. XERF is a monopolar RF device that combines 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz; the manufacturer explains that 2 MHz can deliver thermal energy deeper than 6.78 MHz, while the treatment tip monitors surface temperature with each RF pulse.
Practical planning also considers skin thickness, laxity, facial fat, previous procedures, sensitive areas, and the desired treatment range. More shots or stronger energy are not automatically better; the area, depth, energy, and passes should be selected after an individual assessment.
When XERF is combined with Ultherapy, ultrasound and RF should be treated as different energy tools within one plan. The combination may address different layers, but the sequence and intensity still require a doctor-led decision rather than assuming that more devices always mean a better result.
*This note is for general education and does not replace personal medical advice. Treatment settings and combinations require an individual consultation and medical assessment.
Why people choose XERF
Less painful than Thermage
Lower price in Korea
Little to no downtime
Natural tightening rather than a dramatic change
Thermage FLX is the most established premium RF tightening treatment, backed by more than 20 years of Thermage clinical use.
Thermage FLX also heats the skin to tighten collagen and improve firmness. It is one of the best-known RF treatments worldwide and is commonly used for loose skin, fine lines, and full-face tightening.
Thermage FLX is mainly used for:
skin firmness · fine lines · loose skin · facial tightening · eye-area tightening
Thermage has been used since the early 2000s. Its long history is the clearest advantage over XERF.
XERF and Thermage work in the same basic way: both heat collagen to make loose skin firmer.
Both are RF treatments
Neither treatment is a laser. Both use radiofrequency heat inside the skin.
Both improve firmness
Both are mainly chosen for loose skin, fine lines, and a softer jawline.
Both have little downtime
Most patients return to normal activities on the same day.
Both improve gradually
The main result develops as collagen rebuilds over 1 to 3 months.
What neither treatment can do:
XERF and Thermage cannot lift severe loose skin like facelift surgery.
They work best for mild to moderate skin laxity.
The biggest difference is the treatment experience: XERF focuses on comfort and flexible energy delivery, while Thermage FLX focuses on a long-established one-session protocol.
XERF
Newer treatment
Less pain
Lower price
More practical for first-time RF patients
Thermage FLX
Longer treatment history
Stronger brand recognition
More standardized public shot plans
Higher price and stronger heat sensation
XERF uses a newer energy-delivery and cooling system. Thermage uses a long-established system with a large amount of accumulated treatment experience.
That does not mean Thermage always works better, and it does not mean XERF is automatically stronger. For most patients, the real choice is comfort and value versus longer clinical history.
Yes. XERF is usually much less painful than Thermage FLX.
How XERF feels
XERF usually feels warm with repeated cooling. Many clinics perform it without numbing or with light numbing only.
How Thermage feels
Thermage can feel sharply hot for a moment with each shot. The jawline and cheekbone areas are usually the most sensitive.
Choose XERF if pain is the main reason you have avoided Thermage.
Less pain does not mean less effect.
The treatment result comes from heat delivered inside the skin, not from how much pain the patient feels.
Both treatments may feel tighter immediately, but the main result appears over 1 to 3 months.
The skin may feel tighter
Heat causes an early tightening feeling, but this is not the final result.
Firmness starts becoming easier to notice
Fine lines and facial texture may begin to look smoother.
The main result appears
New collagen makes the skin firmer and the jawline cleaner.
XERF and Thermage results usually last about 6 to 12 months.
The practical maintenance period is similar. Thermage has the stronger long-term history because it has been used much longer, while XERF is still building long-term data.

Natural jawline and firmness improvement
People who want better value than Thermage
XERF is the more practical choice for most first-time RF patients in Korea.

Thermage FLX is better for:
People who previously had a good Thermage result
People who prefer a long-established treatment

Before booking:
Check whether VAT is included, whether the price covers the full face or a limited area,
and whether the listed price is a regular price or a short-term promotion.
Shot counts are useful for comparing prices, but XERF and Thermage shots are not equal units.
For most people who prioritize less pain and a lower price, XERF is the more practical choice. For people who prioritize the longest clinical history, Thermage FLX is the better fit.
Choose XERF
Pain is your main concern
You want a lower price
This is your first RF treatment
You want natural firmness and jawline improvement
Choose Thermage FLX
Long clinical history matters most
You had a good Thermage result before
You prefer an established premium treatment
Higher price and pain are not major concerns
Neither is the best choice for severe loose skin.
XERF and Thermage can tighten mild to moderate laxity,
but they cannot replace facelift surgery when the skin is heavily sagging.
XERF and Thermage FLX provide similar skin-tightening benefits, but they suit different priorities. XERF is the more practical choice for people who want less pain and a lower price. Thermage FLX is the better fit for people who value its longer clinical history.
Yes. XERF is usually much less painful than Thermage FLX. XERF commonly feels warm with repeated cooling, while Thermage can feel sharply hot with each shot.
XERF and Thermage provide the same main type of improvement: firmer skin, smoother fine lines, and a cleaner jawline. Thermage is not guaranteed to work better simply because it is older or more expensive.
XERF results usually last about 6 to 12 months. The skin may feel tighter immediately, while the main result develops over 1 to 3 months.
Thermage FLX results usually last about 6 to 12 months. Thermage has the longer history of clinical use, but its practical maintenance period is similar to XERF.
XERF 300 shots commonly costs 800K–1.3M KRW ($533–$867) in Korea. The final price changes by clinic, doctor, area, VAT, and promotion period.
XERF 600 shots commonly costs 1.6M–2.0M KRW ($1,067–$1,333) in Korea. Premium clinics or broader treatment plans may cost more.
Thermage FLX 300 shots commonly costs 1.0M–1.5M KRW ($667–$1,000) in Korea.
Thermage FLX 600 shots commonly costs 1.8M–2.6M KRW ($1,200–$1,733) in Korea. Some promotional prices may be lower, while premium clinics may charge more.
No. XERF and Thermage shots are not equal units. The devices use different tips and deliver energy differently, so shot counts should be used as a price reference rather than a direct effect conversion.
